India–Nepal time converter

Convert a pickup or arrival time, including date changes around midnight.

What is the time difference between India and Nepal?

Nepal is 15 minutes ahead of India. When it is 10:00 in Gorakhpur, it is 10:15 in Kathmandu. When it is 23:50 in India, it is already 00:05 on the next date in Nepal. The converter above accounts for this date change.

Label the time zone when sending a cross-border pickup message. “Meet at 08:00 India time in Gorakhpur” and “meet at 08:00 Nepal time in Kathmandu” describe different instants. A small difference can still matter when a driver, hotel and traveller are coordinating the same meeting.

Use local time for flights, hotels and taxi meetings

Check the date and local time printed on each transport booking. For a flight arrival near midnight, send the flight number and arrival date as well as the clock time. For a road return to India, keep the Indian train or flight departure distinct from the Nepal-side vehicle meeting.

The clock helps coordinate a meeting; it does not estimate driving duration or border waiting. Use the Sunauli border guide and your route page to plan those parts of the journey. For a Kathmandu airport drop after an intercity drive, discuss a buffer rather than relying on an exact road arrival.

Kathmandu time questions

Does Kathmandu change its clocks in summer?

The current IANA time-zone rules for Asia/Kathmandu have a fixed UTC +05:45 offset and no seasonal daylight-saving change.

Why is the offset 45 minutes?

Time zones do not all use whole-hour offsets. Nepal’s current zone is five hours and forty-five minutes ahead of UTC. Use the named Asia/Kathmandu zone rather than rounding the offset to a neighbouring country.

Is this an official precision time service?

No. The page begins with the server time, updates each second in your browser and periodically resynchronises with the server. Network delay and device scheduling can affect precision. It is a practical travel clock, not a certified timing service.

Clock source and update method

The time-zone conversion uses the IANA Asia/Kathmandu rules provided by the runtime. See the IANA Asia time-zone data. The visible clock refreshes each second and synchronises with the server every minute while the page is visible. With JavaScript disabled, it shows the time at page load.
