Sunauli Border Guide for Private Taxi Travel
Plan the Gorakhpur-to-Nepal crossing around the right starting point, traveller documents, vehicle arrangements and a realistic onward journey.
Understand the names on your itinerary
Nepal Tourism Board’s road-entry guidance identifies Belhiya/Bhairahawa and lists Sunauli–Bhairahawa routes onward to Nepal destinations. Ask your operator to name the agreed crossing and meeting point. A pickup in Gorakhpur, at Sunauli or after entering Nepal represents a different transport scope.
Do not mix the distance columns
The official road table labels its measurements as border-town-to-city distances. Its Sunauli/Bhairahawa figures are not the full journey from Gorakhpur. NepalTaxi’s approved full-route estimates remain approximately 350 km and 12 hours to Kathmandu, and approximately 280 km and 12 hours to Pokhara. None is an arrival guarantee.
Agree how the crossing is handled
Before paying, ask whether the same vehicle is proposed throughout or whether there is a handover. Confirm who handles vehicle formalities, where passengers meet the next driver if needed, how luggage is managed and what waiting is included. Get the relevant contacts in writing.
Prepare each traveller’s documents
Check the official identity and entry guidance for everyone in the group. Indian-national visa exemptions do not remove the need to establish identity. Use the documents guide for a checklist, and resolve children’s or mixed-nationality requirements with the authority before departure.
Leave room in the day
This page does not publish a guaranteed opening window, processing time or queue length. Confirm current arrangements before leaving Gorakhpur. Keep water, essential medication and documents reachable rather than packed beneath luggage; choose onward plans that can accommodate a delay.
Your destination changes the rest of the journey
Butwal is a different drop from Lumbini, Pokhara, Kathmandu or a Chitwan lodge. Send the final address and all intended stops. A short border-to-destination figure cannot determine the duration of a complete pickup, crossing and hotel transfer.
Ask for a transparent written quote
The quote should identify the pickup, final drop, travel date, vehicle arrangement, waiting terms and treatment of permits or border-related charges. Ask what happens if you must stop overnight or change the itinerary. Do not accept a verbal all-inclusive claim without a list of inclusions.
